If you are looking to have a land turtle as a pet you should go for the box turtle. These turtles mostly live past the age of fifty however a significant amount can live past the age of one hundred! If you have this type of turtle at your house it is important to make sure it is kept at the right temperature. My dad owns two boxed turtles and uses a heat lamp above their pen in order to maintain a warm climate. Taking care of box turtles is not an easy task! They grow bigger and bigger at a quick pace and you need to make sure that the turtles have enough space to grow and feel comfortable. Box turtles get easily stressed through noise and over handling so it is very important to make sure you know how to care for them. My dad has had his turtles since I was a little girl and they have grown to be very big. He takes them outside in the summertime in an enclosed area so they can get the amount of sun they need. As a little girl, I thought the turtles were pretty cool but as I grow older I realize just how awesome they really are! The turtles started out the size of my fist and now one of them is bigger than my foot!
Below are pictures of my dad's turtles
Do you have any cool pets? If so, what kind of animal is it?
In case you haven't already guessed, my favorite kind of turtle is the sea turtle because of their beauty and grace. There are many different types of sea turtles including my favorite, the loggerhead. These beautiful creatures are unfortunately on the endangered species list so it is important to help protect them. If you happen to come across a sea turtle's nest, it is illegal in the United States to disturb it. Loggerheads are the most common species of sea turtles to be found in U.S. waters. They live to be over 50 years of age and grow at least three feet in length. They are known for the powerful jaws and large size. The beautiful markings on the loggerhead's face and flippers are what drew me to this type of sea turtle. Comment with your favorite type of turtle!

In the meantime, take a minute to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of sea turtles!
Welcome to my first blog! This blog is about all of the many different types of turtles existing in nature. I have always had an interest in turtles but last summer I developed a special interest in sea turtles. Last summer I was staying with my grandma in Boca Raton, Florida and lucky for me it was nesting season! I called my friend that night and asked him to go to the beach with me because they only lay their eggs at night. We walked miles down the shore of Spanish River Beach until we finally spotted a turtle. This colossal shell moved away from the shore little by little and stopped at what seemed to be the perfect spot to nest. My friend and I got to see the sea turtle burying with her huge fins creating a deep hole underneath her. It takes the turtles about a couple of hours for them to lay their eggs, so after we saw a few moments of her burying her nest we moved on to look for more sea turtles nesting. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Every minute of it was so exciting and further confirmed my love for turtles.
Above is a picture I took from my walk on the beach in Florida. I could not use a flash cause the light would scare her away.
